Description
The Idol of Forbidden Magic is one of the most recently discovered Meta Talismans which can empower the Sosarian with the ability to perform Necromantic rituals to reanimate the corpses of recently slain creatures. The focus of this talisman to allow the practice of Necromancy to supplement your current playstyle, as this is the most versatile Talisman with the least amount of restrictions. The Idol of Forbidden Magic does not restrict you from the Animal Taming or Barding Skills, and allows for the Arms Lore Bonus. It functions very closely to a Summoner, in which you raise a small, but powerful, army that is under your control. These summons use Pet Control Slots, much like Summoned Daemons or Energy Vortexes, however there are some key differences in how they function when compared to normal Summons or Pets/Hirelings. Unlike the other Meta Talisman's Questline, there is a unique way to obtain this Talisman that involves spending time in the graveyards near the various Cities of Britannia and hunting for fragments of this forbidden knowledge.

Activatable Abilities
This Talisman uses Activatable Abilities quite frequently, so you may want to review how to activate relics and what the activatable menu bar is.
Notes
- There are Consumable Perks that can be used to increase experience gain while leveling.
- During Special Events where Double Experience is given, the Consumable Perks bonus is additive, which means that using Perks during these times will set your bonus to Triple Experience for the duration of the perk.
- Talisman experience and relic ability gains are not possible in houses.
- You can no longer gain XP if you have not cast a spell or melee attacked a mob within the last 3 minutes.
- Upon equipping a talisman there is a fifteen minute cool down before the skills or bonuses become active. To avoid this cool down, you can return to the Ancient Statue of Power and speak the words "I wish to pay tribute" which will take 10,000 gold pieces from your bank.
- If you can't find your Abilities Menu, you can find it in your client options, Combat-Spells, Then "Reset the Abilities Menu Position" button at the bottom.
-
The message "You must rest before channeling talisman power again." comes when a Meta Talisman has been deactivated, either by becoming recently un-equipped or being involved in PVP. There is a 15 Minute Cooldown before this Talisman can become active again, or you can pay tribute to the Statue West of the Shrine of Valor for 10,000 gp by saying "I wish to pay tribute".
-
The message "You feel an icy chill as your talisman drains of some of its power." will appear if you or Monsters within homes are targeted.
Questline
The quest for Forbidden Knowledge begins in your town's local graveyard, crypts, and cemeteries where various undead can be found shambling the grounds. Normally citizens do not venture into these dangerous areas without the aid of guards to keep mourners safe during their funeral practices. However, as of late, it seems that the more and more undead have been unable to stay put to rest and this is where you Britannia needs your help! In order to get to the bottom of this mystery, you will need to lure out the local Necromancers afflicting these cemeteries by destroying their creations. Once a significant number of undead have been slain, the Holders of Forbidden Knowledge will come to defend their ritual grounds. It is rumored that a defeated Holder will crush its Crystals of Knowledge into many shards in order to stop someone else from obtaining their power... however if one were to collect enough of these shards, a working Crystals of Knowledge could be reformed and if enough of these Crystals of Knowledge were collected, you would be able to harness powers of the Idol of Forbidden Magic!
Graveyards
There are 7 known graveyards that are under the influence of these Necromancers of which you will need to destroy around 400 of their abominations to pull their interests away from their dark rituals. Upon killing any undead in these graveyards you will see the "Graveyard Tracker" which will track the number of monsters that have been slain and how many more are required to go!
There are currently 7 graveyards where crypts containing hordes of undead have been discovered, these crypts have been identified as the workshops for the Holders of Forbidden Knowledge:
- Britain
- Cove
- Jhelom
- Moonglow
- Nujel'm
- Vesper
- Yew
The Holders of Forbidden Knowledge
Defeating Holders of Forbidden Knowledge may earn you a few shards of a single Crystals of Knowledge that their graveyard contains. These Holders of Forbidden Knowledge may use a variety of Special Abilities to defend their ritual grounds, however it is unknown at this time what sort of tricks they may have up their sleeves! You may want to familiarize yourself with the various abilities that can be found on other Dungeon Bosses.

-
The Holder of Forbidden Knowledge of Vesper Graveyard
Once the Holders of Forbidden Knowledge has been defeated there will be a damage scoreboard, much like Champion Spawns or Dungeon Bosses, where the crystals will be randomly distributed to the defenders of the graveyard which will be weighted by overall score which can be seen after the Holders of Forbidden Knowledge dies. You do not have to be near the boss to receive the rewards!

Crystals of Knowledge
There are 7 different Forbidden Knowledge Crystals, and each of the 7 Holders of Forbidden Knowledge protect a different aspect of this forbidden knowledge. You will need to gather 50 shards of these crystals from the 7 different graveyards in order to construct 7 different Forbidden Knowledge Crystals. You currently can not combine partially constructed Forbidden Knowledge Crystals together, and you cannot combine fragments of different Forbidden Knowledge Crystals together. These Forbidden Knowledge Crystals fragments and completed crystals are tradeable, however keep in mind that you cannot deconstruct a partially constructed Forbidden Knowledge Crystals, so it would be wise to keep them separated until you are ready to combine them all at once!
Once 50 Forbidden Knowledge Crystals fragments have been combined into a complete crystal, you will be able to view the Forbidden Knowledge Crystals combination menu from the completed crystal by clicking the context menu. This will show that each graveyard has 1 Forbidden Knowledge Crystal which will be combined into a single item called the Forbidden Knowledge Stones.
-
Knowledge Crystal Fragments from Britain Graveyard and others.
-
A completed Knowledge Crystal from 50/50 fragments collected in the Yew graveyard for the Idol of Forbidden Magic talisman questline.
-
Forbidden Knowledge Stones from the 7 known Graveyards.
-
Once 50 Forbidden Knowledge Crystals fragments have been combined into a complete crystal, you will be able to view the Forbidden Knowledge Crystals combination menu from the completed crystal by clicking the context menu. This will show that each graveyard has 1 Forbidden Knowledge Crystal which will be combined into a single item called the Forbidden Knowledge Stones.
-
Once you have all 7 Forbidden Knowledge Stones you then combine them into a single relic.
-
You then take this globe to any of the seven graveyards (beware this item is not blessed) and double click it to summon the instance where you will receive your talisman.
-
Instance where you are pulled into.
-
The FRIENDLY lich (do not kill him, he is friendly) will ask for the relic, drag and drop it on him.
-
In exchange, he will present to you your character bound talisman.
Notes
- There is a cooldown of 4 hours, but it starts when the event is triggered between attempts at a particular Holder of Forbidden Magic from their own graveyard. If you do not notice a score tracker when killing undead within the graveyard, the graveyard is on cooldown.
- You cannot (currently) combine partially constructed crystals together, and you cannot combine fragments of different crystals together.
- Upon equipping a talisman there is a fifteen minute cool down before the skills or bonuses become active. To avoid this cool down, you can return to the Ancient Statue of Power and speak the words "I wish to pay tribute" which will take 10,000 gold pieces from your bank.
Summoning Rituals
Summoning Rituals are performed by Necromancers in order to raise the dead for their armies. In the beginning of the talisman you will only be able to Reanimate Skeletons, which you will need in order to raise more Talisman Experience, which will unlock stronger reanimation types as you level up with the Idol of Forbidden Magic Talisman. Each Level of the Idol of Forbidden Magic Talisman will grant a 10% damage increase on damage of your animated dead summons.
Each Reanimation type has a Control Slot, Talisman Level, and Minimum Carrion Essentia requirement. Each reanimation type will also have a minimum number stats and skill level but may also absorb some of the stats or skills from the corpse that is used, however some skills are capped such as a liches Magery to 120 skill regardless of what the corpses' Magery skill was while it was alive. The summoning ritual reanimation type is not dependent on the type of creature's corpse that is used, so you are not required to kill a dragon to raise a Reanimate Skeletal Dragon, and you can summon a Reanimate Skeletal Steed from an Ogre Lord for example. Some body types are incompatible for reanimation due to the nature of the monster, which you may receive the message: "It doesn't seem to be reactive to your manipulations".
Here is a quick overview of the Reanimation Types, their minimum Talisman Level, Carrion Essentia, and Control Slot requirements:
Reanimation Type | Minimum Talisman Level | Minimum Carrion Essentia Requirement | Control Slots |
Reanimate Skeleton | 1 | 150 Carrion Essentia | 1 |
Reanimate Skeleton Archer | 2 | 150 Carrion Essentia | 2 |
Reanimate Skeleton Knight | 4 | 300 Carrion Essentia | 2 |
Reanimate Lich | 6 | 600 Carrion Essentia | 2 |
Reanimate Skeletal Steed | 8 | 400 Carrion Essentia | 2 |
Reanimate Skeletal Dragon | 10 | 1000 Carrion Essentia | 3 |
Carrion Essentia
Carrion Essentia is the measurement of the essential amount of corpse it would require in order to reanimate creatures corpse. This value is calculated by the sum of the Strength, Intelligence, and Dexterity of the corpse selected. For example, a ratman may have a Strength of 70, Intelligence of 30, and Dexterity of 50 which would amount to a total of 150 Carrion Essentia. This would only allow the reanimation of a skeleton or skeleton archer because this would require a minimum of 150 Carrion Essentia, whereas this would not be enough Carrion Essentia to raise a skeleton knight which would require a minimum of 300 Carrion Essentia. Each Reanimation type is unique in what it can and cannot absorb from the corpse, so depending on what the situation calls for... you may want to reanimate lesser undead even if the Carrion Essentia requirements are far lower than the corpses' total Carrion Essentia!
Notes
- In order to be able to perform a summon ritual, you must have looting rights of the corpse.
- In order to complete a summoning ritual you must stand still for the duration of the spell.
- During the summoning ritual, if the summon fails because the area is blocked or the corpse was destroyed, the cooldown for that summon will be returned.
- Summons cannot be healed through Magery, Veterinary, or Healing skills, they can only be healed through Relic powers.
- Summons will last forever, cannot be dispelled by magic, or auto-dispel powers that some monsters possess, however they cannot be stabled!
- Currently the maximum Control Slots is 5, but may be adjusted in the future.
- When summons are used in PVP(Player versus Player) combat, the damage is reduced to 1/4 of normal.
- When the talisman is unequipped, all currently active summons are dispelled. This happens naturally on death, and you will need to return to the Ancient Statue of Power and speak the words "I wish to pay tribute" which will take 10,000 gold pieces from your bank, or wait 15 minutes for the talisman to become active again before summoning will work.
Reanimate Skeleton
The skeleton is the first summon you will have available to you, however do not underestimate its usefulness! Due to all reanimation types ability to absorb the skills and stats of the corpse that is used, you may find that this single slot skeleton can still pack a punch, especially if you in between control slots or cooldown timers.

This can be a good call for low slots, low Carrion Essentia and can be quite the tank for a level 4 Talisman requirement. Due to all reanimation types ability to absorb the skills and stats of the corpse that is used, you may find that this 2 slot skeleton can be the right call for tanking situations with low Carrion Essentia requirements.

The Lich is also the first reanimation type to absorb extra intelligence from the corpse it was created from, which can be enhanced with Essence Reanimation Relic Levels. The Lich uses mana to cast spells, which can be restored with the passive Essentia Tap Relic. Due to all reanimation types ability to absorb the skills and stats of the corpse that is used, you may find that this 2 slot undead can be the right call for long range situations with high armor and low magic resist, however the cooldown is 5 minutes so reanimate wisely!

Reanimate Skeletal Dragon
The most feared of all of the reanimation types, the Skeletal Dragon is truely a fearsome force. Unlike the Skeletal Dragons you find in the wild, these do not spawn lesser undead when hit, however they are still very strong and scale with the corpses you use. It would be a good idea to take advantage of the passive mana restoration of the Essentia Tap Relic. Due to all reanimation types ability to absorb the skills and stats of the corpse that is used, you may find that this 3 slot undead can be the right call for when the most force is required!

Tips, Tricks, and Templates
The early levels of this talisman are slow to level because the summoned skeletons do very little damage and have a very low xp cap. Once your talisman reaches level 2 and you can summon skeletal archers, it gets easier to level. There are two recommended ways to level in the early stages:
- Summon all five available skeletons. Find two high level monsters, like ogre lords, and provoke them onto each other. Then "All Kill" your skeletons onto a monster until they stop gaining experience, then switch them to the other monster. Each skeleton has its own xp cap so make sure all five are hitting the monsters to get the most xp you can.
- Another method is to have a tamer with a meta pet on a second account. Find high level monsters like the allosaurus in Mesozoic_Lands. Have the meta pet aggro the allosaurus and then send your skeletons to beat on the allosaurus.
- Essence Reanimation is a great relic to begin with because it enhances the stats and skills of your necro summons when you keep it active during a summons ritual. Using Essence Reanimation to make your summons stronger means they will gain more xp and help you level faster.
Since this talisman does not restrict you from barding skills, there are a few popular bard templates:
- Provo Archer: Archery, Tactics, Healing, Anatomy, Hiding, Music, and Provocation
- Bard Mage: Magery, Meditation, Evaluating Intelligence, Music, Discord, Provocation, and Resisting Spells
- Necro Fisherman
- Necro Treasure Hunter: Magery, Meditation, Evaluating Intelligence, Music, Provocation, Lockpicking, Cartography (70), Mining (30)
Tamers have also utilized this talisman since there are no taming restrictions for it.
- Animal Taming, Animal Lore, Veterinary, Resisting Spells, Magery, Evaluating Intelligence, Meditation
- This is a basic tamer template and tamers who use this talisman do not typically use the necromancy summons. Instead, they use it for the Decreptify relic.
Like the other talismans, the Arms Lore Minimum Hit Chance baseline does apply to the Idol of Forbidden Magic but since the necro summons need to do damage in order to grant experience to the talisman and relics, giving up 100 skill points to Arms Lore is probably not worth it.
