Description
Synergy is a way to allow Animal Tamers (and those with necro summons) to receive benefits from fighting alongside their chosen pets, and for those pets to benefit from fighting alongside one another. Through extensive combat together, the pets over time learn to become an efficient team. What this means in terms of game mechanics is that the more the same pets fight together, the more their damage is boosted. Synergy works with all pets and pet combinations, in contrast to Pack Instinct which only works for certain combinations of pets. So if you want to use your fancy orange Nightfrenzy that's been in the stablemaster's care for years alongside your Meta Dragon, now you can! A spider and his ferret friend? An odd choice perhaps, but more power to you!
Note: Synergy (and Pack Instinct) bonuses do not apply to damage against players.
Pack Instinct
Pack instinct is a mechanic that applies to some Tameables that makes them better at fighting in groups. A pet's Pack Instinct is visible in their Animal Lore gump, and the more pets attacking the same target with the same Pack Instinct gain a damage boost based on the number of pets in the pack:
Pets in Pack | Pack Instinct Damage Bonus |
---|---|
1 | 0% |
2 | 25% |
3 | 50% |
4 | 75% |
5 | 100% |
Calculation
The damage bonus granted from Synergy depends on three variables: The number of pets in the group, the levels of their synergies with one another, and the number of control slots they require. As follows:
Each Nearby Pet + 1.5(Synergy Level*Pet Control Slots)
This number is calculated for each pet individually, and then granted to the other pets fighting alongside it.
- Each Nearby Pet counts all pets within an 8 tile range. A pet does not count itself.
- Synergy Level is shown in the Synergy gump when mousing over the bar.
- Pet Control Slots is the number of slots that a pet occupies.
If the number resulting from this calculation is smaller than the number generated from pack instinct, a pet will receive the pack instinct number instead. So for example the calculation for a Meta Spider fighting alongside a Meta Crab, with Synergy level 7 is as follows:
- Spider's buff granted to the Crab = Each Nearby Pet(1) + 1.5(Synergy Level(7)*Pet Control Slots(4)) = 43%. Since this number is larger than the 25% boost it would grant from sharing a pack instinct with the crab, the spider grants the crab a 43% damage boost.
- Crab's buff granted to the Spider = Each Nearby Pet(1) + 1.5(Synergy Level(7)*Pet Control Slots(1)) = 11.5%. Since this number is lower than the 25% boost it would grant from sharing a pack instinct with the spider, the crab grants the spider a 25% damage boost.
