Server Patch 10.0.1.0 & Client 1.1.12.0
This update overhauls paragons into a three-rank system with colour-coded glows and far richer rewards, sharpens the Meta Spider’s Instinct stances, and fixes marking inside custom regions. Here’s what’s new.
Paragons Reforged

Paragons — the rare, empowered versions of wild monsters — have been rebuilt around three ranks of escalating danger and reward:
- Paragon — the common rank, wrapped in a red glow.
- Greater Paragon — tougher and less common, burning blue.
- Legendary Paragon — rare and dangerous, blazing brilliant white.
Instead of the old solid-red recolour, each rank now radiates a coloured aura so you can read its danger at a glance. The rank also shows in the creature’s name.
Bigger risk, bigger loot. Paragon rewards now scale with both how tough the base creature is and the paragon’s rank. A paragon of a weak creature drops about what it always did — but the reward climbs steeply for tougher creatures and higher ranks, peaking on a legendary paragon of a truly dangerous monster.
The rank glows are shown on the enhanced UO Forever client.
Reward chest breakdown
The reward chest has a level of its own — from 1 (a weak paragon) up to 10 (a legendary paragon of a truly dangerous creature) — and everything inside scales with it:
| Chest level | Magic gear | Scrolls | Reagents | Gems | Relic chance | Treasure map |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2.25% | lvl 2 |
| 2 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 4.5% | lvl 3 |
| 3 | 6 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 6.75% | lvl 4 |
| 4 | 8 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 9% | lvl 5 |
| 5 | 10 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 11.25% | lvl 6 |
| 6 | 12 | 6 | 6 | 6 | 13.5% | lvl 7 |
| 7 | 14 | 7 | 7 | 7 | 15.75% | lvl 7 |
| 8 | 16 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 18% | lvl 7 |
| 9 | 18 | 9 | 9 | 9 | 20.25% | lvl 7 |
| 10 | 20 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 22.5% | lvl 7 |
“Magic gear” is weapons and armour together, and higher-level chests roll higher-quality gear with better slayer odds. On top of the table, every chest also has a chance at a recipe scroll, a skill scroll, and a consumable perk — and the top-level chests add a small chance at an upgraded (Flawed) relic. The chest is locked and trapped, so come prepared to crack it.
How rich a chest you get
Which chest level you get depends on how tough the creature is and the paragon’s rank. Every creature has a difficulty rating (a “creature level” from 0 for townsfolk up to 6 for bosses); that plus the rank adds bonus chest levels on top of the creature’s normal treasure level:
| Creature difficulty | Paragon | Greater Paragon | Legendary Paragon |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–1 — trivial | +0 | +0 | +0 |
| 2 — weak | +0 | +0 | +1 |
| 3 — moderate | +0 | +1 | +2 |
| 4 — tough | +1 | +2 | +3 |
| 5 — very tough | +2 | +4 | +6 |
| 6 — bosses | +3 | +5 | +7 |
A paragon of a trivial creature rewards exactly as it always did; a legendary paragon of a boss tops the chart. Higher ranks also drop a chest more often — roughly 1.5× as likely for a Greater Paragon and 2.5× for a Legendary Paragon — but only on creatures tough enough to earn the bonus above; trivial creatures keep the normal drop odds at every rank.
Meta Spider: Instincts Sharpened
The Meta Spider’s Instinct stances got a round of upgrades:
- Awakening spectacle — awakening a spider’s Instincts (with a Broodmother’s Instinct relic) now plays a dramatic transformation, and the spider afterwards wears a permanent black aura marking it as awakened.
- Battle Frenzy — every time you take up a stance, your spider gains a stacking burst of attack speed and stamina (up to five stacks), and its stamina tops off. Keep swapping stances in a fight and your spider fights faster; let it settle and the boost fades.
- Venom on the ground — the Venomous and Carapace stances now hurl venom that bursts into toxic puddles where it lands, damaging monsters that stand in them. As always, spider venom only harms hostile monsters — never players or pets.
- Clear stance cooldowns — taking up a stance now visibly puts the others on cooldown (their HUD icons grey out) so you can see when you can switch again.
- Mending now heals your spider from the damage it deals when it bites.
New Visuals
More tools for our content and events team to make the world feel alive (on the enhanced UO Forever client):

- Item & creature scaling — items and creatures can now be rendered larger or smaller than life, with an optional pulsing “breathing” animation. Expect the occasional giant boss, tiny critter, or throbbing magical relic in new content.
- Item entrance effects — items can now make an entrance when they appear — a bouncy pop, a soft fade-in, a grow, a materialise, or a sparkle burst — so rewards and drops feel a little more special.
These are enhanced-client visuals; on the classic client the game plays as normal.
Combat Tweaks
- Polymorph stun fix — the Idol of Endless Forms polymorph can no longer be used to stun or disarm players.
- Polymorph PvP damage — the Idol of Endless Forms polymorph deals about a third less damage to players.
Fixes & Improvements
- Marking in custom regions — you can once again create a mark rune inside custom regions that allow recall or gate, on any facet (not just Felucca).
- Tournament stability — fixed a crash when a duel was cancelled while it was resolving, and cleaned up how players leaving mid-match are handled.
- Tournament exploit — leaving the sign-up queue no longer resurrects a dead player; you’re only restored when leaving the tournament itself.
